Vietnam Airlines to increase flights to Japan, S.Korea, Australia in April

National flag carrier Vietnam Airlines on Wednesday announced the expansion of its regular flight schedules from Vietnamese airports to destinations in Japan, South Korea, and Australia over the next three months.

Specifically, an increase in regular flights from Hanoi’s Noi Bai International Airport to Narita International Airport in Tokyo, Japan; Incheon International Airport in Seoul, South Korea; and Sydney Airport in Sydney, Australia; as well as departures from Ho Chi Minh City’s Tan Son Nhat International Airport to Sydney Airport, was announced.

In April, Vietnam Airlines’ flights to Seoul will depart Hanoi every Thursday, while flights to Tokyo will leave Hanoi on April 3, 8, 11, 16, 23, 27, and 29.

That schedule will expand to every Thursday and Saturday in May and June.

Meanwhile, services to Sydney will depart from Hanoi every Saturday and from Ho Chi Minh City every Thursday and Sunday.

According to Vietnam Airlines, these flights will only serve Vietnamese who leave the country to resume study or work abroad, as well as citizens visiting family members outside of the country who fulfill the entrance criteria of their destination.

Meanwhile, Vietnamese citizens looking to repatriate and experts with job duties in Vietnam can sign up for Vietnam Airlines’ repatriation flights and expert-exclusive flights, respectively, as commercial flights into Vietnam remain shuttered.

The flag carrier is also eyeing the launch of flight packages which include airfares and quarantine fees for passengers heading to Japan, South Korea, and Taiwan.

The plan, however, must receive approval from relevant authorities before it is implemented.

Earlier, a Vietnam Airlines representative said the carrier is on track to launch regular direct flights to the United States.

Vietnam has closed its borders to inbound commercial flights since March last year in order to curb the spread of COVID-19.

Since then, only Vietnamese repatriates, diplomats, foreign experts, and highly-skilled workers have been admitted into the country under stringent requirements, while outbound commercial flights are maintained only in limited frequency.
