The Dung Quat Economic Zone is on the verge of becoming Vietnam's first national oil refining and energy center. According to the Ministry of Industry and Trade's proposal, the project will require an investment of between $16.1 billion and $20.5 billion, divided into two phases. The first phase, from 2025 to 2030, will see an investment of $14.1 to $17.5 billion, with an additional $2 to $3 billion planned by 2045.

Upon completion, the center is expected to meet at least 30% of the national gasoline and oil demand, ensuring reserves equivalent to 30 days of production and consumption. The project is also anticipated to create around 30,000 jobs and contribute 30% to Quang Ngai's Gross Regional Domestic Product (GRDP), while boosting auxiliary industries such as logistics and supporting industries.

In addition to the national oil center, Quang Ngai has proposed several infrastructure projects, including the Quang Ngai - Kon Tum expressway and upgrades to National Highway 24, which connects Quang Ngai and Kon Tum. The province also aims to develop the Dung Quat - Sa Huynh coastal road and enhance the Ly Son special economic zone into a national marine tourism center.

Minister Ngo Van Tuan expressed strong support for the province's direction regarding renewable energy, particularly wind energy in Kon Tum, and urged for its prompt implementation. He acknowledged the necessity of the proposed national highway infrastructure projects and recommended that Quang Ngai work closely with the Ministry of Construction to expedite these initiatives, thus opening new development opportunities for the province and region.

As of August 20, 2026, Quang Ngai has disbursed 2.797 trillion VND of its public investment budget, achieving 34.9% of the Prime Minister's allocated plan for the year. The province is determined to accelerate disbursement to reach 100% of the allocated budget by the end of the year and is focusing on resolving outstanding projects.
