The Da Nang Union of Friendship Organizations (DAFO) just received an emulation flag from the Vietnam Union of Friendship Organizations (VUFO) in recognition of its leading role in implementing Vietnam's people-to-people diplomacy in 2020.
The DAFO hosted a meeting on January 21 to review the people-to-people exchange activities in Da Nang last year.
Speaking at the event, municipal People’s Committee Vice Chairman Ho Ky Minh praised the organisation for its remarkable achievements over the past year.
In 2020, DAFO organised numerous people-to-people exchange activities in the city in a bid to boost the friendship and cooperation between the people of Da Nang and those of other countries around the world.
Many activities have been carried out by the Union and its member associations such as welcomed 12 international delegations; successfully organized photo exhibition to mark 70 years of diplomatic relations between Vietnam-China, international conference and photo exhibition themed "70 years - a journey of friendship and cooperation between Vietnam and the Russian Federation", commemorative programs marking 25 years of Vietnam-US diplomatic relations, 45 years of Vietnam-Germany diplomatic ties and Indian cultural exchanges, etc.
The DAFO also held a solemn ceremony to celebrated the 70th Traditional Day of People-to-People Diplomacy, 25th Anniversary of Danang Union of Friendship Organizations and received the First Class Labor Medal of the President along with Emulation Flag of the Government.
Most important of all, DAFO successfully sought aid from foreign non-governmental organizations for the implementation of numerous social welfare programmes across the city, benefiting hundreds of poor children, the disabled, the orphan and other vulnerable people citywide.
Foreign non-governmental work focuses on supporting poor families and Agent Orange (AO)/dioxin victims in Hoa Vang district; repairing home for AO/dioxin victims; giving Lunar New Year gifts to policy beneficiary families and poor households in Lien Chieu district; donating Japanese crayons to students at nurturing centers and basic necessities for poor children at Quang Chau pagoda; and public support and prevention of COVID-19 epidemic in Da Nang city.
The external information work carried out by the Union and its member organizations has achieved many good results, creating an effective communication channel contributing to deepening mutual understanding between international friends with Da Nang. The Union website has published many articles on people-to-people diplomacy, important foreign affairs and major political events of the country and the city; attaching importance to propaganda on the issue of sea and islands, national sovereignty, and Party resolutions and programs of the city.
The Union also has collaborated with the Da Nang Radio and Television, Vietnam Television Center to develop a documentary about the 70-year history of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and the Russian Federation, and the friendship and cooperation between Da Nang city and localities of the Russian Federation in recent years; a report on the Union's achievements over the past 25 years; as well as a report on the Vietnam-China friendship and cooperation in the city.
Sharing his thoughts on the DAFO’s working orientations in the next term, Minh also asked the organizations to make greater efforts to intensify people-to-people exchange activities in the coming time in a bid to promote the beautiful images of the city to international friends. Heed should be paid to appeal for non-governmental organisations to actively engage in implementing more socio-economic development projects in the city in the time ahead.
Also at the event, the VUFO presented an emulation flag to the DAFO for its leading role in implementing Vietnam's people-to-people diplomacy in 2020.
2020 noticeably showcased Da Nang’s great efforts in completing its goals under the socio-economic development plans set for the 2016 - 2020 period, heading towards the 2021 – 2025 period, complying with the Politburo-adopted Resolution No 43-NQ/TW regarding Da Nang’s major developments to 2030 with a vision to 2045, and also especially, implementing the '2020: the year of promoting investment attraction’ landmark campaign.
In face of the negative impact of the coronavirus pandemic and unfavourable weather conditions, 2020 still saw FDI inflows channeled into Da Nang increase by nearly 38%, compared with 2019.
