Global Gold Prices Update: September 22, 2026

On September 22, 2026, the global gold market is experiencing a notable downturn, with prices falling below the highs recorded earlier this year. Buyers who purchased gold at prices exceeding 191 million VND per tael are now facing losses of nearly 49 million VND per tael when selling at current rates.

The latest reports indicate that gold prices today are significantly lower compared to the peak values observed at the end of January. For instance, gold sold at various brands ranged from 189.6 to 191.3 million VND per tael at the end of January, while current prices hover around 145.2 to 146.6 million VND per tael.

At SJC, the price of gold on this date is recorded at 143.6 million VND per tael for buying and 146.6 million VND for selling. This represents a loss of approximately 46 million VND per tael for those who bought at the peak price of 189.6 million VND. Similarly, at PNJ in Hanoi, gold prices are the same, indicating a consistent trend across major sellers.

DOJI and Phu Quy also report similar prices, with gold bars priced at 143.6 to 146.6 million VND per tael. The losses for buyers who purchased at the higher January prices remain substantial, with estimates around 46 million VND per tael across different retailers.

In addition, the international gold price has also seen a decline, dropping to around 4,345.8 USD per ounce, which is a decrease of 31.6 USD compared to the previous day. When converted at the current exchange rate, this translates to approximately 137.28 million VND per tael, excluding taxes and fees. This indicates that domestic gold prices are currently about 9.32 million VND higher than international rates.

The decline in gold prices is attributed to increasing expectations that the U.S. Federal Reserve will continue to tighten monetary policy this year. Strengthening signals from major central banks have also bolstered the U.S. dollar, putting additional pressure on precious metals. As of 9:20 AM Eastern Time, spot gold prices had decreased by 0.3%, while U.S. futures fell by 0.6%.

Market analyst Jim Wyckoff from American Gold Exchange notes that concerns regarding tightening monetary policy in the U.S. continue to affect investor sentiment towards gold, making it a challenging environment for gold buyers.
