Gold Prices Drop Significantly in Vietnam

On September 13, 2026, the gold market in Vietnam experienced a significant downturn, with prices dropping sharply over the past week. Buyers of gold in the country are facing losses ranging from 4.6 to 7 million VND per tael, largely due to high discrepancies between buying and selling prices.

SJC Gold Prices

As the week concluded, Saigon Jewelry Company (SJC) listed its gold prices at 143-146 million VND per tael for buying and selling, with a spread of 3 million VND. This marks a decrease of 1.6 million VND from the previous week's closing prices.

Similarly, DOJI, another major player in the market, reported the same price range of 143-146 million VND per tael, also reflecting a 1.6 million VND drop compared to the prior week. Buyers who purchased SJC gold on September 6 and sold it on September 13 faced a loss of 4.6 million VND per tael.

9999 Gold Prices

At the same time, DOJI listed its 9999 gold prices at 143-147 million VND per tael, with a decrease of 3 million VND for both buying and selling. Phu Quy Gold and Gemstone Company reported prices at 143-146.4 million VND per tael, down by 1.6 million VND for buying and 1.5 million VND for selling. Buyers at DOJI faced a loss of 7 million VND per tael, while those at Phu Quy lost 4.9 million VND.

Global Gold Prices

Internationally, gold prices closed the week at approximately 4,347.7 USD per ounce, down by 81.4 USD from the previous week. The global market saw a recovery signal after a significant adjustment, aided by a weakening US dollar, a decrease in US Treasury yields, and a drop in oil prices.

Despite facing pressure from recent US economic data, which raised expectations for prolonged high-interest rates from the Federal Reserve, the selling pressure on gold has eased as it maintains important support levels. The market has not yet shown a deep downward trend, with spot prices remaining above the support level of around 4,320 USD per ounce.

Market Outlook

Looking ahead, market attention will focus on policy signals from the Federal Reserve. If the Fed continues to signal caution regarding interest rates, this could exert additional pressure on gold prices. Conversely, indications of potential monetary easing could provide momentum for a recovery in gold prices.

A recent survey among 14 analysts indicated that 9 expect gold prices to rise in the coming week, while 2 predict further declines, and 3 believe that prices will fluctuate within a narrow range awaiting new signals. Individual investors also lean slightly towards expecting an increase in gold prices, with 53% anticipating a rise.
