Russian ballistic missile strikes on Kyiv have tragically resulted in at least nine deaths and injured over 23 individuals, as reported by local officials early Saturday. The attacks are part of a concerning escalation in violence, with President Volodymyr Zelensky emphasizing the urgent need for interceptor missiles to protect the capital.

The strikes occurred just two days after a suspected Russian cruise missile landed in Poland, contributing to a broader wave of attacks that killed at least eight people, including six members of a single family in a village near Kryvyih Rih.

Kyiv's Mayor Vitali Klitschko confirmed that the city experienced a ballistic missile attack, with reports indicating more than ten explosions throughout the area. Fires broke out across the city, leading to power outages in several neighborhoods. A residential building in the Shevchenkivskyi district was partially destroyed, trapping residents inside.

Emergency services reported that seven individuals were killed in the Darnytskyi district, while another two fatalities occurred in the Solomyanskyi district, where a five-storey residential building was also damaged. Among the injured were two children, highlighting the indiscriminate nature of the attacks.

These missile strikes follow a recent meeting between President Zelensky and former U.S. President Donald Trump in Washington, where Zelensky advocated for Ukraine to be granted a license to produce Patriot interceptor missiles. Trump stated that discussions were ongoing but expressed caution about allowing Ukraine to manufacture advanced U.S. weaponry.

As Russia intensifies its air assaults, Ukraine is reportedly running low on supplies of Patriot missiles, which are crucial for intercepting ballistic threats. Zelensky reiterated the importance of acquiring these defense systems in a post on X, emphasizing that air defense remains a top priority.

In response to the ongoing conflict, Ukraine has increased its retaliatory strikes, targeting logistics hubs associated with Russia's military operations, including attacks on warehouses belonging to Russia's largest online retailer, Wildberries.
