Giant pomelos sell up to a million dong each

Currently, the price of Lam Dong pomelo sold on Tet holiday is from 300,000 VND to 1.5 million VND/fruit. All large fruits over 4 kg have regular customers call to order in advance. Smaller fruits will be ordered by traders in the garden. ($1=25,000 VND)

Mr. Cao Van Thuy, Director of Lam Dong Commune Agricultural Cooperative, said that with its unique characteristics, Lam Dong pomelo trees have been certified by geographical indications for trademarks and are a rare indigenous genetic resource that needs to be preserved. Currently, the whole commune has about 2,000 pomelo trees in a period of stable fruiting.

The People’s Committee of Thuy Nguyen district also determined that Lam Dong pomelo trees have high economic value and have built a brand. However, the development of the pomelo growing area is facing difficulties due to a lack of arable land.

“The People’s Committee of Thuy Nguyen district has planned to turn this specialty fruit into an OCOP product (one product per commune and ward) in 2023, through which there is a specific mechanism to support people to expand their gardens and take care of them. science, market access”, said Mr. Nguyen Van Vien, Vice Chairman of Thuy Nguyen district.
