People in Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi cheered for Vietnam U23 in the rain

Despite the rain, many fans in Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi flocked to places with old large screens between Vietnam and Thailand in the 31st SEA Games final.

Despite the rain, thousands of people flocked to Nguyen Hue pedestrian street (District 1) to watch and cheer for the U23 Vietnam team in the final against U23 Thailand on the evening of May 22.

Young people draw the national flag to encourage teachers and students of Park Hang-Seo.

Wearing a mask in the shape of a football cup, Mr. Duong Van My (36 years old) from Go Vap district and his colleagues continuously knocked on pots and pans to stir the atmosphere on the pedestrian street. “Vietnam will win 1-0 against Thailand,” predicted Mr. My.

Cao Hai, 28 years old, brought along a photo of Coach Park Hang-Seo and members of the team he designed himself to cheer. “I believe U23 Vietnam will win close to Thailand,” she said.

Half an hour before the time of the ball rolling, the atmosphere became more bustling as the streets around the crowd gathered more and more people.

By the time the match came out, the screens on the pedestrian street were full of people. At this time, the rain stopped, and most of the fans stood up and raised their arms to the passionate music.

8 km from Nguyen Hue Street, at Binh Tay Market (District 6), people also flock here to watch football through the big screen.

People wear raincoats, spread silver, and wait for the match to take place. “Today, my whole family took advantage of an early dinner to come here to cheer for the players. I believe Vietnam will defend the championship,” the woman said.

In Hanoi , from 6pm, many people who could not afford to go to My Dinh yard poured to Dong Kinh Nghia Thuc square next to Sword Lake, Hoan Kiem district, Hanoi, to watch football on the big screen.

By the time the match was about to begin, there were about 2,000 people in the square.

9 km from Dong Kinh Nghia Thuc square, about 3,000 residents of HH Linh Dam apartment building, Hoang Mai district, also enthusiastically cheered on Vietnam through the screen.

Many people carry small children to cheer for Park Hang-SEO’s teachers and students.

Vietnam met Thailand for the first time in the SEA Games men’s football final after 17 years. Vietnam has never defeated Thailand in the SEA Games final, but Park Hang-SEO’s teachers and students are the defending champions. Many experts consider the two teams to be equally talented, but Vietnam has the home-field advantage.

This is also the first time Park’s team has met Thailand in the final. U23 Vietnam since Park came to Vietnam been unbeaten against Southeast Asian rivals. The team won 20 and drew two in 22 matches against teams from the same area.
