36 hours in Hue with 300$

Bich Giang, who lives in Da Nang, shares her experience of playing and eating in the ancient capital of Hue in the spring.

Here is a suggestion to discover food in 36 hours with VND 300$ per person, from Da Nang by Dang Thi Bich Giang, 20 years old. Visitors from Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, or other provinces to Da Nang who want to visit Hue can refer to this schedule.

Move

There are many ways to get to Hue from Da Nang: motorbike, car, train, hire a taxi through the tunnel or Hai Van pass. Giang’s group has 9 people, so choose the train for convenience and fun. Travel time is three hours. The ticket price for a sleeper car is 90,000 VND per person, the seat is 85,000 VND.

Traveling in the city: Because the hotel is located in the center, Giang walks to nearby attractions and hires taxis to distant places. Taxi fare per person is 80,000 VND. If you go in a small group, you can rent a motorbike for flexibility.

Sleep

The group rents a homestay on Ben Nghe street in the city center, convenient to travel to. The large room booked in advance had problems, but the group did not find a new hotel but divided it into smaller rooms. “The room was a little tight, but we saved half of the room. It costs 45,000 VND per person per night,” the young woman shared.

If you want to stay in a “genuine” hotel, you can choose Hue Crown Boutique, Imperial Hotel Hue, Rosaleen Boutique Hotel… near the city center, priced at about 700,000 VND/night or Indochine Palace, Silk Path Grand, Senna Hue Hotel, Alba Spa Hotel… with prices ranging from 1,600,000 to 2,000,000 VND.

Eating

Giang’s group took the train to Hue at 12:50 and had lunch at a snakehead fish cake soup shop near the station, 20,000 VND a bowl. If you want to order more food, the price difference is only about 5,000 VND.

15:30 after check-in, the group started the food tour on the ancient capital, as well as walking and sightseeing. The first restaurant in the journey is located on Dinh Tien Hoang Street with vermicelli, noodles, and mussel rice priced at 10,000 VND.

Dong Ba Market is the next place. There are many shops here with all kinds of dishes from grilled to tea that make young tourists fall in love. At the first restaurant, the group ordered 10 grilled skewers, two grilled beef fish and a plate of fried corn for 180,000 VND. After that, the group went to the restaurant next door to eat new grilled dishes, with a total cost of 350,000 VND. Tea at the market costs 15,000 VND a cup. Leaving the market, the group continued their street food tour when they stopped at a pork sandwich shop near Truong Tien Bridge, priced at 15,000 VND each.

On the way back to the hotel, Giang and his friends stopped by the West Quarter to have fun. “This place is very suitable for people who like the bustle, eating and dancing. Food and drink prices are cheaper than going to coffee,” Giang said. The price of a bottle of beer here is 13,000 VND, the food is also cheap, 30,000 VND per person on average.

In the evening, the group buys more food and drinks back to the homestay. “At the end of the first day, we ran out of 185,000 VND each. We ate well and enjoyed many delicious dishes,” said the young female tourist.

On the second day, everyone got up early to eat vermicelli on Nguyen Du street according to the instructions of a taxi driver. A full bowl costs 40,000 VND. However, in her opinion, the noodles here are not delicious and expensive compared to the common ground.

The group continued to visit a cafe on Huyen Tran Cong Chua Street, right near Xuan Thuy incense village. The shop has a beautiful view, the decoration is similar to Da Lat, drinks from 20,000 VND.

At 12 noon, the group will return to the homestay to check out, leave luggage at the front desk and continue to visit An Tam restaurant at Nguyen Cong Tru. The restaurant is praised by many diners on groups and Giang also appreciates it as delicious, and the owner is friendly. Two rolls of spring rolls, one stuffed spring rolls, Hue cakes, a small hot pot, two pieces of stuffed snails and drinking water, 55,000 VND each.

In the afternoon, Giang and his friends returned to Dong Ba market to buy gifts and have a snack at the Hong Mai cake shop in Dinh Tien Hoang. The price of each cake is 30,000 VND. At 19:30, the group returned to West Street to enjoy the happy echoes of the previous day, then returned to Da Nang.

Sightseeing

Giang’s group mainly explored Hue cuisine, and because of their short time, they also only went to the Citadel and Thuy Xuan incense village. “The incense village is very beautiful and colorful, very suitable for photography,” Giang said.

The young female tourist said that Hue is not as sad as many people think, the important thing is how to explore. If she has the opportunity, she still wants to return to Hue to visit the places that have not been visited on this trip.

“The trip had some unsatisfactory things, but if I leave a comment about Hue, my comment is: Great!. The weather is very nice, both warm and cold. Hue is an interesting destination if you have been to Hoi An too many times,” Giang said.
