Samsung has officially rolled out One UI 9, based on Android 17, which brings significant changes to the security features of Galaxy devices. One of the most notable updates is the removal of the Lockdown Mode from the power menu, a feature that previously allowed users to lock their devices and disable biometric authentication, requiring a PIN or password for access.

However, this removal is not a step backward; rather, it is a measure aimed at enhancing security. The new One UI 9 system will automatically lock the device and disable biometric authentication as soon as the power menu is opened. This change eliminates the need for manual activation, providing immediate protection against unauthorized access.

Initially, the automatic locking mechanism was not clearly communicated, leaving some users confused. To address this, Samsung has introduced a visual notification in the recently released One UI 9 beta 4 for the Galaxy S26. This notification states: "For security reasons, your phone has been locked." This small addition helps users easily understand the security status of their device, reducing any confusion.

As before, once users exit the power menu, fingerprint and facial recognition features will remain completely locked. The only way to regain access to the device is by entering the correct PIN, pattern, or password that was previously set up.

The official stable version of One UI 9 is expected to be launched by Samsung tomorrow, coinciding with the release of the next generation of premium foldable smartphones. Galaxy users can look forward to experiencing these advanced and convenient security features soon.
