Ukraine Launches Massive Drone Attack, Moscow Oil Depot Burns

Ukraine has intensified its military operations against Russia, launching a massive drone strike that involved 650 unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) aimed at Moscow. Reports indicate that this assault has resulted in a substantial fire at the Volodarsk Oil Production and Coordination Center, located approximately 40 kilometers from the Russian capital.

The attack occurred in the early hours, and according to local authorities, at least 105 of the UAVs were intercepted by Russian air defense systems. Moscow's Mayor, Sergei Sobyanin, confirmed that the majority of the drones were destroyed before they could reach their targets, but the scale of the attack marks one of the largest drone offensives against the region in the past two years.

Tragically, the assault has resulted in casualties, with reports indicating that two individuals lost their lives and nine others sustained injuries. The Russian Defense Ministry has stated that a total of 868 Ukrainian drones were intercepted across the country during the night.

Eyewitness accounts and video footage from the scene show flames erupting from the Volodarsk facility, which is known to produce three million tons of oil products annually. This facility is crucial as it connects to major airports in Moscow and is situated about 450 kilometers from the Ukrainian border.

This drone strike follows Ukraine's recent attacks on other significant Russian oil infrastructure, as Kyiv aims to disrupt Moscow's military capabilities. The Ukrainian Defense Ministry reported that over 51% of Russia's oil refining capacity has been affected by these ongoing strikes.

In retaliation, Russia has ramped up its own attacks on Ukrainian targets, leading to severe destruction across the country. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has vowed to continue these offensive operations, prompting Russian officials to announce their commitment to intensifying strikes on Ukrainian military and defense-related infrastructure.

In related developments, former U.S. President Donald Trump commented on the situation, suggesting that Ukraine's strikes on Russian oil facilities are contributing to rising gasoline prices, overshadowing other geopolitical factors. His remarks come ahead of the upcoming midterm elections in the U.S., as the Republican Party seeks to maintain control of Congress.
