Recent satellite images released by the Australian mapping platform Soar reveal substantial damage at the Muwaffaq Salti military base in Jordan, following a missile attack attributed to Iran. The images, taken on September 8 and 10, show at least six signs of damage, including a hangar that appears to have been hit and several suspected impact craters along the runway.

According to Soar, there are also noticeable changes to two unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) hangars, suggesting potential damage, though the extent remains unclear. One of the damaged areas is located near the fighter jet parking lot, indicating that debris from the explosions may have affected the aircraft stationed there.

The US Central Command (CENTCOM), responsible for military operations in the Middle East, has not yet commented on the incident. When asked about the reports of damage to US fighter jets in Jordan, former President Donald Trump denied any such claims, stating, "There is absolutely nothing. No damage."

The Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) announced on September 9 that they had launched a ballistic missile attack targeting US military infrastructure at the Muwaffaq Salti base in retaliation for an earlier attack on five oil tankers. They claimed that a significant number of ballistic missiles, including both solid and liquid-fueled types, struck areas housing F-35, F-15, and F-16 fighter jets, inflicting severe damage on US forces.

Jordanian military officials reported that they successfully intercepted 18 out of 20 ballistic missiles aimed at their territory, with the remaining two landing in uninhabited areas. CBS News reported that at least eight F-15E multi-role fighters and one A-10 ground attack aircraft were damaged in the assault, with the A-10 suffering the most severe damage, losing a wing. The F-15Es sustained lighter damage and are expected to return to service soon.

Videos shared on social media by Jordanian citizens showed Patriot missile defense systems firing to intercept the Iranian missiles, although at least four managed to breach the defense network and strike the airbase. Additionally, US military facilities in Aqaba and the Prince Hassan airbase in Jordan were also targeted during the attack.

Since March, Iran has claimed to have launched over ten attacks on the Muwaffaq Salti base. Satellite images from Airbus taken in mid-February, just days before the escalation of conflict in the Middle East, revealed more than 60 US fighter jets stationed at the Muwaffaq Salti airbase, tripling the usual troop levels, including around 30 F-35 stealth fighters and over 20 F-15E fighters.
