Vietnam's 'Together We Step Forward 2026' Surpasses 1 Billion Steps

The 'Together We Step Forward 2026' initiative has made significant strides, surpassing the milestone of 1 billion steps just before its official launch. This remarkable achievement reflects the enthusiasm of participants across 34 provinces and cities in Vietnam, with over 182,000 individuals contributing to this collective effort.

Scheduled to kick off at 6 AM on Sunday, August 30, 2026, the program aims to engage communities nationwide in a synchronized walking event. The goal for this year is to reach a total of 10 billion steps, promoting not only physical health but also a commitment to environmental sustainability.

Organized by the People's Newspaper in collaboration with the Ministry of Public Security, the Ministry of National Defense, and the Central Committee of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union, the initiative carries the message: 'The Journey of 10 Billion Green Steps - For a Sustainable Vietnam.' This year's program builds on the success of 2025, which attracted over 1.1 million participants and recorded more than 6 billion steps, far exceeding its initial target of 1 billion steps.

As of now, the program has already achieved over 10% of its ambitious target. Each step logged online contributes to the collective goal, showcasing the community's commitment to a healthier lifestyle and environmental awareness.

During a press conference on August 25, Lê Quốc Minh, a member of the Central Party Committee and editor-in-chief of the People's Newspaper, highlighted the success of the previous year's program as a foundation for expanding this year's objectives. The initiative not only focuses on step counts but also aims to foster positive habits within the community, encouraging a healthy and environmentally friendly lifestyle.

The peak activities of 'Together We Step Forward 2026' will take place over two days, August 29 and 30, with the main walking event commencing at 6:30 AM on the 30th. The program also seeks to establish a Guinness World Record, further emphasizing its ambitious nature.
