Strengthening Comprehensive Cooperation Between Vietnam and France

On August 27, 2026, at the Government Headquarters, Vietnam's Prime Minister Lê Minh Hưng welcomed French Ambassador Olivier Brochet, who was bidding farewell at the end of his term in Vietnam. The meeting was attended by Lê Hoài Trung, Minister of Foreign Affairs and a member of the Politburo.

During the meeting, Prime Minister Lê Minh Hưng congratulated Ambassador Brochet on successfully completing his tenure in Vietnam. He praised the Ambassador's dedicated contributions to enhancing the Vietnam-France relationship, particularly the upgrade of their partnership to a comprehensive strategic level in October 2024. The Prime Minister highlighted the importance of ongoing exchanges and visits between the two nations.

Prime Minister Hưng reiterated Vietnam's commitment to strengthening its relationship with France, which is considered one of Vietnam's key partners in Europe and the first comprehensive strategic partner in the European Union. He expressed satisfaction with the positive developments in bilateral ties, noting the increasing political trust and the enhancement of economic, trade, and investment cooperation. Notably, collaboration in science, technology, and innovation has emerged as a new pillar of their partnership.

Building on the current strong relationship, the Prime Minister urged both sides to further deepen their comprehensive cooperation. He requested Ambassador Brochet to continue supporting bilateral relations in his new role, particularly in promising areas such as science, technology, high-quality human resource training, and traditional cooperation in health, education, culture, and heritage preservation.

In response, Ambassador Brochet expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Lê Minh Hưng for the warm reception and acknowledged the support from the Vietnamese government and local authorities throughout his tenure. He felt proud to have witnessed and contributed to the significant historical advancements in the bilateral relationship.

The Ambassador affirmed France's recognition of Vietnam's growing role and status in the region and internationally. He expressed his desire to continue contributing to the development of the comprehensive strategic partnership through practical cooperation programs and projects, particularly in economics, infrastructure, aerospace, nuclear energy, education, and culture.

Concluding the meeting, Prime Minister Lê Minh Hưng expressed confidence that Ambassador Brochet would continue to serve as a bridge of friendship between the two nations, fostering a robust, substantive, and sustainable comprehensive strategic partnership between Vietnam and France.
