As many global tech companies are cutting jobs and restructuring due to the rise of artificial intelligence (AI), FPT has taken a different path by expanding its technology workforce. By the end of July 2026, FPT's technology staff reached 37,002, marking an increase of almost 4% from 35,638 at the end of 2025.
This trend of workforce expansion at FPT comes as numerous major tech firms worldwide are undergoing significant layoffs. For instance, Oracle announced a reduction of approximately 21,000 employees, which is about 13% of its workforce, as part of a restructuring process influenced by AI integration. Similarly, Atlassian revealed plans to cut around 1,600 positions, equivalent to 10% of its workforce, to reallocate resources towards AI and enterprise sales.
However, not all tech companies are following this downsizing trend. Alphabet, the parent company of Google, increased its workforce by nearly 12,000 over the past year, bringing its total to nearly 199,000 employees. These contrasting developments suggest that while AI may lead to the elimination of some jobs, it also creates demand for new roles, particularly in technology development, data management, infrastructure, and AI deployment.
The growing investment in AI is reflected in the global IT service spending, which is projected to grow at an average rate of about 8.5% annually until 2030. Specifically, spending on AI services is expected to reach around $1.26 trillion by 2030, with an average growth rate of 23.6% per year.
According to Nguyen The Phuong, Deputy General Director and Chief Financial Officer of FPT, business investment needs are increasingly focused on AI infrastructure, AI agents, data security, AI governance, and operational process redesign. AI not only expands existing job opportunities but also makes previously unfeasible projects more viable in terms of cost and time.
Pham Minh Tuan, Deputy General Director of FPT and CEO of FPT Software, provided an example of modernizing technology systems built 30-40 years ago. These legacy systems may contain hundreds of millions of lines of code, and if done manually, the process could require thousands of employees and take about ten years. With AI assistance, the implementation time can be reduced to approximately three years, instilling greater confidence in clients when deciding to undertake large-scale system transformation projects.
The market demand is also reflected in FPT's financial results. In the first seven months of 2026, the company reported revenues of 30.784 trillion VND and a pre-tax profit of 6.659 trillion VND, representing increases of 13.6% and 18.3% year-on-year, respectively. The technology sector alone contributed 27.298 trillion VND in revenue, a 16% increase, while digital transformation revenue reached 11.127 trillion VND, up 20.8%. Notably, the AI/Data Analytics segment experienced a remarkable growth of 54%.
In the context of rapidly increasing AI demand, FPT's technology workforce is expected to continue expanding. As of July 31, 2026, FPT's total workforce across its ecosystem, including seven subsidiaries and four affiliates, reached 88,553, an increase of 2,562 employees, or 2.98%, compared to the end of 2025. Excluding the four affiliates, FPT had 44,388 employees as of June 30, 2026, compared to 54,110 at the end of 2025, prior to the change in consolidation method for FPT Telecom.
