A devastating incident occurred in Peru when a Cessna Caravan C-208, carrying 11 international tourists and two pilots, crashed in the Nazca desert, resulting in the loss of all lives on board. The plane was on a sightseeing flight over the famous Nazca Lines, a UNESCO World Heritage site known for its massive geoglyphs, when the accident took place on August 1.

The aircraft, operated by the private airline Aerodiana, took off from the city of Ica at 12:10 PM. Approximately 50 minutes into the flight, the crew issued a distress signal to the Nazca airport control tower before losing contact. The plane subsequently went down in the Vista Alegre district of Nazca and caught fire upon impact.

Emergency services, including firefighters and police, quickly arrived at the scene but unfortunately found no survivors. Among the deceased were seven Italian nationals, two Germans, and two Spaniards. The two pilots, both Peruvian, also perished in the crash.

The Peruvian Aviation Accident Investigation Committee is currently collaborating with relevant authorities to determine the cause of the crash. The Nazca Lines, created between 500 BC and 500 AD, feature hundreds of large-scale drawings that depict animals, plants, and geometric patterns, visible only from the air. This tragic event is not the first of its kind in the region; Nazca has seen several sightseeing plane crashes since 2008, resulting in numerous fatalities among tourists and crew members over the years.
