Vietnamese tourists prefer Asian destinations for Tet

HCMC – Local travelers favor short-haul trips to Asian destinations during the Lunar New Year holiday, or Tet, particularly Thailand, Indonesia, Singapore, Malaysia and Taiwan, according to Agoda.com, a Singaporean online travel firm.

According to Agoda data, most outbound Vietnamese tourists headed to Thailand in celebration of Tet from January 21 to 24. Favorable locations include Bangkok and other popular destinations in Pattaya and Chiang Mai.

Travelers from China and Japan have also sought to make reservations in Thailand during the vacation.

Conversely, Thai tourists are keen on visiting Japan, with popular sites being Tokyo, Osaka and Fukuoka.

Kuala Lumpur, Malacca and Penang are three of the most favorable tourism hotspots in Malaysia.

Vietnam ranks eighth on Agoda’s search platform.

According to a firm’s representative, the tourism industry is pinning hopes on the reopening of popular travel destinations like South Korea, Taiwan and Japan.
