Strong Selling Pressure Hits Stock Market, Many Stocks Plummet

The stock market faced a wave of strong selling pressure that significantly impacted many stocks, particularly in the securities sector. The VN-Index fell to approximately 1,660 points as a result of this widespread decline. On the morning of July 27, the VN-Index opened positively, briefly reaching around 1,700 points, but cautious trading sentiment quickly cooled the market.

As selling pressure intensified, the VN-Index turned negative during the morning session. Technically, the VN-Index remained close to the Lower Band of the Bollinger Bands and was above the Fibonacci Retracement level of 78.6%, which corresponds to the range of 1,645-1,675 points. Furthermore, the MACD indicator continued to widen its gap with the Signal line below the zero mark, suggesting that short-term prospects were not looking bright.

In the afternoon session, the market maintained a mixed state, with the VN-Index fluctuating and changing colors frequently. However, a sudden spike in selling occurred just before the market entered the ATC order matching phase. This unexpected surge in selling pressure caused many stocks, especially in the securities sector, to decline sharply, with several stocks hitting their floor prices. Notably, VND recorded a trading volume of 15.56 million units with a remaining sell order of 150,000 units.

Other securities stocks, although not hitting their floor prices, still saw significant declines. For instance, VIX and VPX both dropped 5.6%, while SSI fell by 3.5%, and HCM decreased by 2.3%. VIX remained the most liquid stock in the market, achieving over 45 million units traded.

Alongside the securities stocks, the real estate sector also faced heavy selling, with several stocks like BCM, SZC, HDC, PDR, and VPH all hitting their maximum decline limits. PDR had over 1.4 million units remaining for sale at the floor price. Other notable declines included NLG down 6.3%, TCH down 6%, and DIG down 5.9%. NVL and DIG were among the most actively traded stocks in the sector, with volumes of 19.6 million and 19.1 million units, respectively.

Banking stocks were not spared from the downward trend, with most stocks widening their decline limits. Exceptions included SSB, which rose slightly by nearly 1%, and LPB, which increased by 3%. SHB was the most actively traded bank stock with over 45 million units traded, but it ended the session down 3% at the lowest price of the day, 11,450 VND per share. Other bank stocks like ACB, MBB, VPB, and TCB fell around 1% with trading volumes between 10-20 million units.

The energy sector recorded a nearly 2% decline, with BSR down 1.25%, PLX down nearly 3%, PVT down 3.3%, and PVD down 3.7%. Most sectors expanded their decline limits, leaving only four sectors, including pharmaceuticals, biotechnology, life sciences, and professional services, with minor gains around 0.1%.

In terms of market capitalization, the VN30 index closed down nearly 23 points with 24 stocks declining and only five stocks increasing. LPB had the best performance, increasing by 3.1%, followed by SSB with a 1% rise, while VHM, SAB, and VIC saw slight increases of around 0.5%.

In a surprising turn, the stock MWG was heavily sold off, ending the session down 6.9% at 63,300 VND per share, with a remaining sell order of 400,000 units. This marked the lowest price in 11 months, since late August 2025, bringing the market capitalization down to nearly 104 trillion VND. This sell-off occurred just before the company was set to finalize its dividend distribution, with a 10% cash dividend planned for distribution on August 6, 2026.

In contrast, PNJ managed to successfully recover and was one of the few stocks to end the session in the green, closing up 7% at 32,900 VND per share with a trading volume of 10.26 million units and a remaining buy order of 200,000 units.

By the end of the session on the HOSE, there were 258 declining stocks (19 hitting their floor prices), more than three times the number of advancing stocks (79). The VN-Index decreased by 17.1 points (-1.01%), closing at 1,669.01 points. The total trading volume reached over 635.4 million units, with a value of 14.575 trillion VND, marking a 7.77% increase in volume and a 4.87% increase in value compared to the last session.

On the HNX, selling pressure increased significantly, particularly from the HNX30 group, leading to a sharp decline in the HNX-Index towards the end of the session. The HNX closed with 98 declining stocks and only 38 advancing stocks, with the HNX-Index down 3.64 points (-1.33%), settling at 269.35 points. The total trading volume reached over 58.1 million units, valued at 896 billion VND.

In the derivatives market, the futures contract 41I1G8000 dropped 23.9 points, or -1.3%, to 1,811.1 points, with a trading volume of 243,281 units and an open interest of 35,616 units.

Overall, the market faced significant challenges with many sectors experiencing sharp declines, reflecting a cautious trading environment.
