IU and Lee Jong Suk Confirm Breakup After Four Years Together
K-pop star IU and actor Lee Jong Suk have officially confirmed their breakup after four years of dating.

South Korean stars IU and Lee Jong Suk have officially announced their breakup after four years of dating. The news has left many fans disappointed, as the couple was admired for their discreet yet affectionate relationship.
On July 10, 2026, South Korean media outlets reported that Lee Jong Suk's management company, Ace Factory, confirmed the split, stating, "The information about their breakup is accurate. They decided to maintain a good colleague relationship." Shortly after, IU's agency, EDAM Entertainment, released a similar statement.
The reason for their separation has been attributed to their hectic work schedules, which left them with little time to spend together. IU and Lee Jong Suk had a long-standing friendship of ten years before they began dating. Despite their four-year romance, the couple never shared a photo together on social media or attended events as a pair, which kept their relationship relatively private.
Fans admired the couple for their subtle gestures of affection, such as Lee Jong Suk using memorabilia designed by IU and supporting her at concerts. However, their low-profile relationship led to speculation about their status, especially after rumors circulated last year regarding a potential breakup. These rumors were fueled by IU dining with V from BTS on her birthday and posting photos with her friend Kang Han Na, which sparked discussions among fans.
Lee Jong Suk and IU first met in 2012 while co-hosting the music program Inkigayo. Over the years, they developed a close friendship, and in early 2023, they publicly confirmed their relationship through heartfelt letters, expressing their admiration for one another. Lee Jong Suk referred to IU as a significant source of support in his life, while IU described him as a reliable and caring partner.
Following their breakup, both artists are now focusing on their individual careers. Lee Jong Suk is set to star in the upcoming Disney+ series The Remarried Empress and is also involved in a project based on the web novel Lee Seop's Love. Meanwhile, IU has recently completed filming for the MBC drama The 21st Century Grand Prince's Wife and is preparing to release a new album and hold a concert at Goyang Stadium in September.
