Nguyen Van Duong and Pham Thien Nghia, who previously served as the Vice Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee and Chairman of the People's Committee of Dong Thap Province, have received disciplinary actions from the Central Inspection Commission. According to a statement released on July 7, the commission announced that during its eighth session, it issued a warning to Pham Thien Nghia, who served as the Vice Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee and Chairman of the People's Committee from 2021 to 2026, and reprimanded Nguyen Van Duong, who held the same position from 2016 to 2021.
The Central Inspection Commission concluded that both Duong and Nghia had violated party regulations and state laws in the execution of their assigned duties. Their actions were deemed serious enough to warrant disciplinary measures due to their failure to adhere to the responsibilities and ethical standards expected of party members.
Pham Thien Nghia, who was involved in a significant event in December 2022, had previously requested early retirement in February 2025, nearly three years ahead of the standard retirement age. At that time, he was 59 years old. Nghia, originally from Lap Vo District, holds a master's degree in economics and has held various positions, including Director of the Department of Industry and Trade, Secretary of the Thap Muoi District Party Committee, Head of the Provincial Internal Affairs Committee, and finally Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee since December 2020.
He had also faced reprimands from the Central Inspection Commission in late 2022 due to issues related to bidding and procurement during the COVID-19 pandemic response efforts. The disciplinary actions taken against these two former leaders reflect the ongoing commitment to uphold integrity and accountability within the ranks of the Communist Party of Vietnam.
