PM requests inspection of electricity supply

HCMC – Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh has instructed the Ministry of Trade and Industry to establish a team to inspect the electricity supply of Vietnam Electricity Group (EVN) from 2021 to June of this year.

This request is part of a directive on ensuring electricity supply, which was signed and issued by PM Chinh on June 6.

Given the recent electricity shortages, PM Chinh has directed the Ministry of Industry and Trade to conduct a comprehensive assessment of the current electricity supply and guide EVN in formulating measures to address difficulties, with June 10 set as a deadline.

The ministry has been tasked with finalizing the Prime Minister’s directives on electricity conservation for the period 2023-2025, as well as those on ensuring the supply of coal and gas for electricity production. These tasks must be reported and submitted to the PM by June 8 and June 15, respectively.

The ministry is also required to conclude pricing negotiations with investors of wind and solar power projects by June of this year.

Meanwhile, the PM has called for additional efforts from EVN to alleviate electricity shortages and resolve any issues at power plants, particularly in the northern region, in order to resume their operations as soon as possible.

Vietnam National Coal and Mineral Industries Group (Vinacomin) and PetroVietnam (PVN) have been assigned to ensure an adequate supply of coal and gas for power plants as requested by EVN.
