HCMC – The Government has proposed that the National Assembly (NA) extend the e-visa validity to 90 days with single or multiple entries to attract more international visitors to Vietnam.

The recommendation was part of the Government’s proposals presented to the NA plenary session today, May 27, to revise immigration procedures, e-visa issuance and visa exemption for foreign visitors.

On behalf of the Government, General To Lam, Minister of Public Security, said the effort is aimed at creating favorable conditions and making it easy for foreign visitors who want to spend more time in Vietnam.

The Government also suggested issuing e-visas to citizens of all countries and territories.

Vietnam now grants one-month single-entry e-visas to visitors from 80 countries and territories, the local media reported.

In addition, the Government proposed extending the duration of visa-free stay for international tourists to 45 days from the current 15 days to provide momentum for the recovery of tourism post pandemic.

The NA National Defense and Security Committee has endorsed the Government’s proposals in principle, said Le Tan Toi, the committee chairman.

The agency advised the relevant authorities to consider granting visa exemptions for visitors from more countries and territories, as Vietnam’s current list of 25 countries receiving visa waivers is considerably fewer than that of other regional countries.
