Increasing numbers of agricultural households earning between VND 500 million and VND 1 billion annually

On March 10, the Ho Chi Minh City Farmer Association held a conference to review the five-year implementation of the Good farmers in production and business, unite to help one another get rich and reduce poverty sustainably emulation movement. The association stressed that the movement has been maintained and promoted in terms of quantity, scale, quality, economic effectiveness, and contribution to economic stability.

Over the last half-decade, the city has registered 88,657 members and farmers. 73,275 agricultural households have been recognized as good farmers at all levels of production and business. The number of agricultural families earning between VND 500 million and VND 1 billion per year increased by 50% between 2012 and 2016.

Thanks to the initiative, excellent farming households have created almost 70,000 jobs, provided capital, plant types, and production expertise to nearly 10,000 farming households, and assisted over 7,500 poor households in starting businesses.

Additionally, the movement advocates for the Southern Metropolis to quickly finish the National goal program for sustained poverty reduction between 2026 and 2020. Several outstanding farmers have formed a nucleus of unity and made significant contributions to the new rural development movement. 

The movement has aided in the acceleration of production structure transitions, such as the rapid transformation of ineffective varieties, plants, and animals into high-quality, effective ones, hence increasing the value of goods in response to market needs. It contributes to the progressive establishment of concentrated production regions for each plant and animal type in accordance with the agricultural production orientation of urban areas.

Numerous members and farmers change their thinking and practices in order to incorporate science and technology into production to expand agriculture's economy and to collaborate in linking producing regions with product consumption. Scaling up successful ideas and examples of productive farmers

Mr. Nguyen Huu Hiep, Chairman of the HCMC Party Committee's Commission for Mass Mobilization, expressed his appreciation for the Good Farmers' good contribution to production and business emulation during the last five years.

The movement has actively contributed to the city's socio-economic growth by speeding the completion of requirements for the creation of new countryside, strengthening and upgrading people's material and spiritual lives, as well as the security of social welfare in rural regions.

"As a result of the emulation movement, several unique examples, and new factors have been discovered, and so several great collectives and people have been honored in different ways," stated the head of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee's Commission for Mass Mobilization.

According to the official, the movement, in collaboration with others, has aided in the city's social-economic development by fostering a new vitality, a new atmosphere for study, production, and labor, as well as preserving political stability, social order, and safety in rural areas, thereby contributing to the establishment of new countryside.

Mr. Hiep asked the Ho Chi Minh City Farmers Association to continue its efforts to understand the thoughts and expectations of members, farmers, and to propose suitable policies and directives to the top levels in order to eliminate obstacles to agricultural growth for farmers. Additionally, the head of the HCMC Party Committee's Commission for Mass Mobilization requested that the municipal Farmers association continue renovating communications and mobilization activities, as well as providing support to members and farmers in capital, scientific, and technical administration for appropriate, cost-effective, and efficient production; promote the association's role in orienting farmers toward the development of the city's primary force and potential products, and connect for product consumption. Additionally, the organization was tasked with identifying and scaling up effective production methods and examples of good farmers in production, as well as creating favorable conditions for them to prosper and propose to State-level rewards.
