Vietnam’s Lam Dong Province pulls down unauthorized mansion

Vietnam’s Lam Dong Province pulls down unauthorized mansion

The People’s Committee of Bao Loc City in Vietnam's Central Highlands province of Lam Dong are planning to dismantle a local edifice after it was found with multiple violations, including planning breach and land invasion.

Local authorities have ordered relevant bodies to prepare to enforce the demolition of a mansion on Ly Thuong Kiet Street in Loc Phat Ward, an official from the Bao Loc People’s Committee said on Wednesday.

The owner is 49-year-old Pham Van Huyen.

The premises are located in a lot reserved for a leisure-oriented urban area project in Bao Loc.

For this reason, Huyen could not obtain a construction permit for his mansion, which spreads over 600 square meters and includes a 97-square-meter reservoir, a three-story main building, a pond, a fountain lake, and other components.

The community as well as local authorities have voiced disapproval of the edifice since it started to take form, but Huyen managed to complete it with more features, including a pool and a garage.

As per the coercion plan of Bao Loc City officials, Huyen would have to pull down the structure and restore the original landscape within 15 days since he first receives a demolition notification.

On top of the coercive measures imposed on Huyen, the Bao Loc People’s Committee also told the Lam Dong environmental department to reprimand the city’s land registration office for the unauthorized mansion blunder.

The People’s Committee repeatedly requested the local land registration office to work with Loc Phat Ward officials on outlining Huyen’s premises, which would help detect violations in the case.

However, the committee was met with slow responses and lukewarm cooperation from the land registration office.

The delayed responses also led to deferment of Huyen’s penalty, an official at the Bao Loc City People’s Committee stated.
