Vietnam Ambassador to Brazil Pham Thi Kim Hoa recently had a meeting with Suriname Ambassador to Brazil Marlon Mohamed Hoesein and Bolivia representative in Brazil FalegValdez Copas.
The Ambassadors exchanged news about COVID-19's complicated situation and impact in each country, as well as solutions to promote bilateral cooperation after the pandemic.
Surinam and Bolivia have a longstanding friendship with Vietnam. Bolivia is one of the first Latin American countries to support Vietnam to join the World Trade Organization and to hold the position of United Nations Security Council as a non-permanent member in 2008-2009. Surinam and Bolivia congratulated Vietnam's achievement in controlling the COVID-19 pandemic and maintaining positive economic growth.
Though bilateral trade exchanges between Vietnam and the two countries are still in their early stages, there are signs of progress. Vietnam - Bolivia bilateral trade exchange raised from USD 2.3 million in 2007 to about USD 55 million in 2020. The main products exported by Vietnam are footwear and textile products. However, there are many areas where the two sides have the potential to cooperate for mutual benefits such as mineral exploitation and processing, natural gas, agriculture and construction, telecommunications technology, and high technology.
Ambassador Kim Hoa thanked the Surinam Ambassador and Bolivian Representative for their support. The Ambassador expressed her wish to continue promoting cooperation in all fields with their countries, especially soon to submit her letter of authorization when the pandemic situation in Brazil was under control.
