The South Korean film 'Agent Kim Reactivated', featuring So Ji Sub, has achieved the number one position on Netflix's global chart in its second week of release. This success has ended the four-week reign of 'Teach You a Lesson', starring Kim Moo Yeol, which previously held the top spot.
'Agent Kim Reactivated' tells the story of a seemingly ordinary father with a mysterious past, which unfolds as he embarks on a quest to find his missing daughter. According to Netflix, the film recorded 10.5 million views during the latest tracking week that concluded on Sunday.
Initially, 'Agent Kim Reactivated' debuted at number three on the global Netflix rankings just three days after its release on June 26. It has since become the most-watched non-English language television series in 11 countries, including South Korea, Indonesia, and Bolivia, while also breaking into the top 10 in 68 other countries and regions.
In contrast, 'Teach You a Lesson', which dominated the charts for four weeks, has now slipped to second place with 4.7 million views and is still featured in the top 10 in 54 countries.
Another South Korean film, 'Notes from the Last Row', starring Choi Min Sik and Choi Hyun Wook, has also made it to the top 10, ranking fifth with 2.6 million views.
'Agent Kim Reactivated' airs on SBS and is simultaneously available on Netflix. This dark crime action film revolves around a former agent, known as 'Codename 66', who unleashes his deadly combat skills to confront a corrupt nation and massive criminal organizations. The film draws inspiration from the famous saying, 'Never mess with an old man wearing glasses', portraying a narrative where the law fails, and justice is served through sheer force.
The gripping scenes where Kim forces villains to plead for their lives instead of easily forgiving them provide audiences with a thrilling sense of justice. Central to the film is So Ji Sub, whose powerful presence carries the entire project. The 48-year-old actor captivates viewers with a largely silent performance, expressing emotion through his piercing gaze and intense expressions.
This film is achieving remarkable success in both television ratings in South Korea and viewership on global streaming platforms. According to Nielsen Korea, the fourth episode of 'Agent Kim Reactivated' recorded a nationwide rating of 21.6%, making it the third highest-rated Friday-Saturday drama in SBS history, trailing only behind 'The Penthouse 2' (29.2%) and 'Passionate Priest' (22%).
