Taylor Swift has made a formal request to the New York City government to close streets near Madison Square Garden, where she is reportedly set to hold her wedding. The request was submitted by a wedding planning company to the Street Activity Permit Office, seeking to block access to streets around the entertainment complex from July 2 to the afternoon of July 4.
The timing of this request has sparked speculation that Swift is preparing for her wedding, which is rumored to take place on July 3. According to reports from USA Today, Dora Pekec, a spokesperson for the New York City Mayor's office, confirmed that the city has received the permit application, although neither Taylor Swift nor her fiancé, NFL star Travis Kelce, were mentioned in the documents.
The planning company also intends to set up a tent outside Madison Square Garden, anticipating an attendance of between 500 and 999 guests for the event. Additionally, they will arrange for trucks to transport goods to and from the venue during the wedding festivities.
Pekec noted that while street closures are being considered, they will be limited to the immediate vicinity of Madison Square Garden and not extend to multiple blocks. She emphasized that such permit applications for events of this scale are common, stating, "This means the organizing entity will implement appropriate procedures to ensure safety and ease of movement for everyone involved."
Madison Square Garden, known as one of the premier venues in the United States, has hosted numerous significant events, including basketball games, hockey matches, and concerts by iconic artists like Elvis Presley, Bob Dylan, Madonna, Michael Jackson, and Taylor Swift herself. With a capacity of around 20,000, it remains a beloved location for sports and music fans alike.
However, some media outlets have raised concerns that Swift's wedding could lead to severe traffic disruptions in New York City, especially given that the wedding coincides with the 250th anniversary of American Independence on July 4 and a World Cup match scheduled at MetLife Stadium on July 5. CNN remarked that closing streets near Madison Square Garden could create a "traffic nightmare," given the area's high daily foot traffic.
As of now, both Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce have kept details about their wedding under wraps. Representatives from Madison Square Garden have not confirmed any of the related information. Last week, TMZ reported that Swift might have hosted a bachelorette party at her Rhode Island mansion on June 17, attended by close friends, including Abigail Anderson Berard. Meanwhile, Kelce has been spending time with friends and Swift's brother in Los Angeles.
Taylor Swift, 37, is often referred to as the "princess of country music" and has been a prominent figure in the music industry since her debut in 2006. She has received numerous awards and accolades, amassing a net worth of $2 billion, according to Forbes. Travis Kelce, also 37, is a record-setting NFL star who previously dated model Kayla Nicole for five years before their breakup in May 2022. The couple began dating in 2023 after Kelce caught Swift's attention during her concert at The Eras Tour in Kansas City in July 2023. They publicly confirmed their relationship in September 2023 and announced their engagement in August 2025.
