PNJ Prepares Financial Resources Amid Rising Diamond Buyback Demand

Phu Nhuan Jewelry (PNJ) has recently experienced an unprecedented increase in diamond buyback requests, with the volume of buybacks now surpassing sales by a factor of five. This surge has placed considerable pressure on the company's cash flow. However, during a press conference on July 21, PNJ's General Director, Phan Quoc Cong, assured that the company has prepared financial resources amounting to thousands of billions of Vietnamese dong to fulfill customer demands.

In light of recent incidents affecting the domestic diamond market, PNJ's retail outlets have seen a dramatic rise in customers bringing jewelry for resale. The company is committed to honoring 100% of its buyback obligations for all customer transactions. As of March 31, 2026, PNJ reported total assets nearing 19.7 trillion Vietnamese dong, with cash and cash equivalents exceeding 900 billion dong, marking a 77% increase since the beginning of the year.

PNJ's liquidity is robust, with over 4.4 trillion Vietnamese dong in quickly liquidated assets. This financial cushion allows the company to navigate cash flow challenges effectively. In the first quarter of 2026, PNJ recorded over 43 billion dong in interest income from deposits, a 68% increase compared to the same period in 2025. The company's total liabilities stood at nearly 5.3 trillion dong, with approximately 55% attributed to bank loans, which have decreased by 31% since the start of the year.

To mitigate liquidity pressure, PNJ has adjusted its buyback payment policy. Instead of immediate payment, the company will now process payments after completing product verification and arranging suitable liquidity. Customers selling diamonds can expect payment within 120 days, divided into five installments. This new policy also applies to other products, including 24K gold and various jewelry items.

As the demand for diamond buybacks continues to rise, PNJ remains committed to maintaining its buyback obligations while ensuring financial stability. The recent surge in customer transactions has prompted the company to adapt its operations to better serve its clientele amidst evolving market conditions.
