The total volume of goods through Da Nang Port post a 17% rise in profits in 2019 despite suffering the negative impact of the COVID-19 pandemic

Despite suffering negatively from the impact of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic and natural disasters over the previous year, the total volume of goods through Da Nang Port and container throughput improved, reaching 11.4 million tonnes, and 554,000 Teus, respectively. This boost therefore led to a 17% increase in profits, and up approximately 15% compared to 2019.

Da Nang port has developed into one of the 10 largest container handling ports in the nation and is among the top five most prestigious logistics units in the port industry. Last year saw Da Nang Port put the Container Operation Center into operation featuring an electronic port system and an automatic container system as a means of minimising waiting times and cutting costs for customers.

Moving forward, Da Nang Port Joint Stock Company is poised to invest in the construction of wharves No. 4 and 5 at Tien Sa ports, including six hectares of container storage, in addition to crane equipment of all kinds. The company is anticipated to build a 20-hectare container area in Hoa Nhon commune of Hoa Vang district as a logistics centre of the Central and Central Highlands.

Tran Le Tuan, acting general director of Da Nang Port Joint Stock Company, said the port has achieved a memorable milestone in the journey of developing the site.

“The port received the first tonnes of cargo on the first day of the New Year with a target of 630,000 Teus and 12.5 million tonnes, and sales of over VND1,000 billion,” he added./.
