Tan Cang-Cat Lai handles 70 container ships in first week of lunar new year
HCMC – The first week of the Lunar New Year saw around 70 container ships visiting the Tan Cang-Cat Lai port in HCMC, carrying a total of 107,000 TEUs, or 1.54 million tons of cargo, rising by 2.5% compared to the same period last year.

Yesterday, the port received nine container ships with 15,424 TEUs, equivalent to 220,000 tons of cargo, the Saigon Newport Corporation, the operator of the port, said while Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh visited the port for a ceremony held last night to mark the first shipment of the Lunar New Year.

This first shipment contained electronics goods.

The prime minister said that the Saigon Newport Corporation should work harder to become a major port in the region and the world and a pioneer in implementing the Strategy for Sustainable Development of Vietnam’s Sea Economy until 2030 with a vision to 2045.

In 2022, despite the woes brought by the Covid-19 pandemic, the Saigon Newport Corporation reported VND4,500 billion in profit from all the ports under the corporation, up 16.2%, and contributed over VND1,900 billion to the State budget.
