Vietnam Airlines and Vietjet Plan International Flights from Long Thanh
Vietnam Airlines and Vietjet are preparing to launch international flights from Long Thanh International

The summer travel season has officially begun, and Taiwan's major airlines are poised to capitalize on this peak period. China Airlines, EVA Air, StarLux Airlines, and Taiwan Tigerair are all benefiting from robust demand for long-haul routes to Europe and the Americas, as well as continued interest in travel to Japan and South Korea. Analysts are optimistic that both passenger and cargo services will see simultaneous growth, driving operational success for these airlines.
This summer, travel demand is reportedly stronger than last year, particularly for European routes, which are benefiting from new destinations and a surge in travel enthusiasm. The passenger load factor remains high, while the Americas routes are supported by both business and leisure travel. Japan, South Korea, and Southeast Asia continue to be the top choices for outbound travelers from Taiwan.
On the cargo side, demand for air freight remains strong, driven by ongoing requirements for AI servers, semiconductor equipment, and high-tech products. This dual engine of growth—passenger and cargo—has positioned the airlines for a successful season. EVA Air has noted that demand for North American routes has exceeded expectations, with its newly launched Washington D.C. route performing exceptionally well. In July and August, the booking rate for major routes has surpassed 85%.
China Airlines reported a consolidated revenue of NT$21.76 billion in June, marking a 28.82% year-on-year increase and setting a new monthly record. The airline stated that the average passenger load factor for major routes to Europe and the U.S. has reached 90%, with continued growth in bookings for Asian routes. To meet the rising demand, the airline plans to increase flights to Busan, Kobe, and Brisbane starting in July.
StarLux Airlines is also expanding its long-haul network, with plans to launch a new route from Taipei to Prague in August and another to Bali in October, further enhancing its presence in the European and Asian markets. Meanwhile, Taiwan Tigerair reported an average passenger load factor of 91% in June, and it aims to deepen its network by launching new routes from Kaohsiung to Ishigaki and Komatsu in September.
