HCMC breaks ground on VND3.4-trillion interchange

HCMC – The VND3.4-trillion An Phu interchange project got off the ground this morning, December 29, to ease traffic congestion in the eastern gateway of HCMC.

The three-level interchange comprises a two-way underpass connecting HCMC-Long Thanh-Dau Giay Expressway with Mai Chi Tho Street, a Y-shaped overpass linking the streets of Mai Chi Tho and Luong Dinh Cua with the expressway and a right-turn overpass running from the expressway to Mai Chi Tho Street.

Work on the project is expected to be completed in April 2025, according to Le Ngoc Hung, deputy director of the HCMC Transportation Works Construction Investment Project Management Authority.

The An Phu interchange is a key traffic project to reduce traffic congestion at the eastern gate of HCMC and facilitate traffic connectivity with the Long Thanh international airport in Dong Nai Province.

It is also the first step to turning this place into one of the largest hubs in HCMC with various large projects, such as Luong Dinh Cua Street, HCMC-Long Thanh-Dau Giay Expy, Beltway No.3, HCMC-Nha Trang Railway and the elevated HCMC-Long Thanh Road.

The project was previously estimated to cost nearly VND4 trillion. After some careful calculations and consideration, the total investment was reduced to VND3.4 billion.

HCMC has recently started work on three large traffic projects, the VND11-trillion Terminal T3 at the Tan Son Nhat International Airport, the VND4.8-trillion road linking the streets of Tran Quoc Hoan and Cong Hoa and the VND1.5-trillion National Highway 50 expansion.
