The ripe yellow-orange hill ‘hides goods’ waiting for Tet

Huong Son and Vu Quang districts (Ha Tinh) are the two areas that grow the most areas of oranges and citrus fruits in the province. Currently, this specialty fruit season is in the harvest.

Although many small traders come to buy, many garden owners still buy goods waiting for Tet to sell.

Orange orchards in the hills in Huong Son and Vu Quang districts are ripe and golden. The weather this year is erratic, so the output is not as high as in previous years.

According to people, the price of oranges and citrus is ranging from 35,000 – 45,000 VND/kg, but during Tet, it can increase to 50,000 – 60,000 VND/kg. There are also times when it is over 70,000/kg.($1=25,000 VND)

Mr. Pham Van Truong (30 years old, residing in village 1, Quang Tho commune, Vu Quang district) said that this year the family’s orange orchard harvested about 6 tons. From the beginning of the 12th lunar month until now, traders from all over the world come to the garden to order, but the family only sells in small quantities, the rest wait until Tet because the price will be higher.

Because many orange trees are full of fruit, they have to use bamboo poles to prevent broken branches or fruit being touched to the ground causing damage.

This year’s erratic weather caused orange production to decrease compared to last year. Because the fruit is not of good quality, many people have to cut down the orange tree to plant something new.

The whole Huong Son district currently has more than 1,000 hectares of orange-growing area, most concentrated in the communes of Son Truong, Kim Hoa, Quang Diem, Son Ham, Son Lam… And in Vu Quang district, there are nearly 2,600 hectares of area. grow oranges. This year, Vu Quang district is estimated to reach about 25,000 tons of oranges, and farmers collect over 600 billion VND.($1=25,000 VND)
