The type of tree that used to grow wild is now grown to have millions of money, when Tet comes, just cut the leaves and sell it

In the days approaching Tet, people in many places begin to bustlingly harvest Dong (Phrynium placentarium) leaves to serve the people of the country to pack Tet cakes.

If in the past, sycamore trees grew everywhere and did not bring economic value, now they “come to life”, bringing income to people.

The dandelion tree thrives in moist and shaded areas.

Dong leaves can be harvested all year round, but people usually collect them near Tet (around November to December of the lunar calendar) to serve the needs of wrapping Banh Chung and Banh Tet on the occasion of the Lunar New Year.

Not only in the domestic market, but this leaf is also exported to foreign countries

The leaves exported to foreign countries are selected products: no yellowing at the edges, no stains, no holes, no broken leaves, no black, no dirty soil, not too old, no need to strip them alive, cut to 7cm stalks.

In Trang Cat dong leaf village (Hanoi), at this time people are preparing to harvest to supply to the market.

Families here earn from a few tens to hundreds of millions of dong/per year thanks to dong leaves

Each dong leaf garden can harvest more than three crops in a year. Each pole in the North can bring in an income of 20-30 million VND from selling dong leaves.($1=25,000 VND)

There are 3 types of dong leaves: Small type for most people to pack Banh Tet, medium type for wrapping Banh Chung, and large for hand wrapping… The price of each type ranges from 20-50-100 thousand VND/bundle (100 leaves).
