Bao Dai Palace on Lak Lake

DAK LAK – Most of Bao Dai’s palaces are located in urban areas or tourist centers only work on the pristine and deserted Lak lake.

The work was built in 1951, at that time Bao Dai was the Head of the State of Vietnam (present-day South), and with the Imperial dynasty of Cuong Tho in the Central Highlands (present-day Central Highlands), Bao Dai was still the king of this land. Unlike other palaces in other places, Bao Dai used to work in combination with rest, Lak lake palace is mainly for resting when hunting elephants in the Central Highlands.

At the time of construction, the Lak lake area was very deserted and deserted, surrounded by primeval forests. It is Queen Nam Phuong who is responsible for construction management and payment for the project. Lak lake villa has a simple architecture, modern style combined with some folk architectural features of the Central Highlands ethnic groups. The building has a low front and back structure with a wide sloping roof system.

In front of the villa is 3 floors high with a staircase to welcome to the 2nd floor. Originally this concrete staircase was perpendicular to the house, but later when it was restored, people adjusted the horizontal staircase close to the wall so as not to get in the way. In the courtyard, the old location placed two wooden stairs in the style of the Tay Nguyen stilt house. The main building materials are concrete, brick, wood, glass; terracotta tiled roof. The facade has many large glass windows to admire nature.

The ground floor of the villa has a garage, bedrooms for the entourage, a kitchen, a dining room and a number of auxiliary rooms. Currently, the dining room is used as a restaurant.

If you go from the main hall, follow the outside stairs to the 2nd floor, you will meet a wooden staircase in the middle leading to the 3rd floor. Under the stairs, there is a door to the rear service block. The two sides of the stairs are the main bedroom and the living room.

The master bedroom (pictured), also known as the King room, is the place where King Bao Dai used to rest, now a sightseeing space. With an area of ​​​​about 30 m2, the ceiling and floor are all wood, the King room has its own toilet and restored furniture, decorated according to the old documents.

From the room, visitors can zoom in on the view of Lak Lake through two large glass windows.

On the other side is the common room of the king and family. Currently, this room is a space to display some pictures of King Bao Dai in Dak Lak and the Central Highlands, hunting activities; along with some of the king’s elephant hunting tools. When needed, this place is used as a dining room for tourism.

This room used to have a fireplace, but it has been filled in, and there are still marks on the wall. Next to it is a specimen of a crocodile caught in Lak Lake around 2000.

Following the wooden stairs from the 2nd floor to the 3rd floor, guests will see two bedrooms on either side. Formerly the bedrooms of princesses, princes and children of kings, now it is a tourist business living room.

The Palace of Lak Lake used to fall into disrepair for many decades. It was not until the early 2000s that this work was restored and put into service for tourism. Currently, the Lak Lake Palace is both a ticketed attraction and a restaurant and hotel business.
