On July 24, a Facebook account posted a picture of the 2nd floor of a coffee shop in An Tuong ward, Tuyen Quang city, on the floor were large round jackfruits. The post quickly received more than 16,000 likes. Most commenters think that the restaurant has an impressive and unique design or wants to eat the “interior” of the restaurant.

Mr. Do Quang Dung (39 years old) said he was not too surprised when the image of his shop was shared on social networks because last year’s jackfruit season also had many guests come to take pictures. He said the cafe has been run by his family for 2 years, on a land of about 150 m2. Previously, the land had a jackfruit tree planted by the previous owner in 1968 and a level 4 house. As an architect, instead of cutting down trees to get an area, Mr. Dung designed a 2-storey cafe, with the 2nd floor is an iron and steel frame, wood grain plastic cladding for trees to grow through. The lower part of the floor is a cool corrugated iron roof with waterproofing. On the first floor, the jackfruit tree is surrounded by a small aquarium.

Mr. Dung said that in the past, the jackfruit tree did not have much fruit because the old owner let the branches grow too luxuriant and covered a large canvas around the trunk. When building the shop, he hired a pruner and the results for the past 2 years have been very wrong, mainly in the upper body on the 2nd floor.

His family takes care of the jackfruit tree in a natural way such as not making a roof to block the sun, not using pesticides or stimulating the fruit. Once a fruit sprouted from the first floor, instead of cutting the fruit, his mother cut a part of the floorboard so it could grow.

Hoang Trang, a regular customer of the shop, said that the shop has a very unique design, so she often comes here with friends. Especially in the hot summer, the trees create shade, the faint scent of jackfruit is very pleasant. Two branches also grow curved to create a very beautiful pose, children love to sit up to take pictures. “Coming here on the day of the ripe jackfruit was also invited by the owner of the restaurant to cut the fruit, the owner was very enthusiastic and close,” she said.

Every jackfruit season around May-July, guests come to drink water and take pictures with a very crowded jackfruit tree. The area on the 2nd floor is often full, but the restaurant can only serve a maximum of 200 guests per night because the area is not allowed.

The jackfruit tree is for landscaping, so Mr. Dung does not harvest the fruit for sale. At the end of July, when each jackfruit is ripe, it will be given to landlords and tenants, relatives and always at the shop for guests to enjoy. Guests and staff also often check the ripeness of each fruit to harvest, not to fall.
