The Vietnam U23 football team has officially landed in Nagoya, Japan, ready to embark on their campaign for the Asiad 2026. After a flight of over five hours, the team members are eager to begin their preparations for the tournament.

Prior to their departure for Japan, the U23 team welcomed six players from SL Nghệ An, who had just finished a match against Hanoi FC in the V-League 2026-2027. Following their impressive 4-1 victory, players Cao Văn Bình and Quang Vinh joined the squad, boosting the team's confidence as they aim for success in Asiad.

Upon arrival in Nagoya, the team completed their immigration procedures and proceeded to their designated hotel. On the afternoon of September 13, the U23 squad will hold a training session to acclimate to the local weather and playing conditions.

In terms of team composition, two players, Nguyễn Quốc Toản and Đặng Tuấn Phong, are expected to join the squad just before their opening match. Additionally, there have been last-minute changes to the roster, with goalkeeper Nguyễn Bảo Ngọc and forward Hoàng Quang Dũng being called up to replace Phạm Đình Hải and Công Phương, respectively. These adjustments have posed challenges for head coach Đinh Hồng Vinh and his staff in finalizing the team's lineup and strategy.

Despite these hurdles, the entire team is committed to overcoming difficulties and achieving their goal of reaching the quarter-finals at the Asiad. Before their departure, VFF General Secretary Nguyễn Văn Phú met with the team to encourage and outline their objectives for the tournament, emphasizing that Asiad 2026 is one of the four key events for Vietnamese football.

Furthermore, VFF President Trần Quốc Tuấn is present in Nagoya to oversee the men's football event at Asiad 2026 and will support the U23 team throughout their journey in Japan.

In Group C of Asiad 20, Vietnam U23 will face Uzbekistan, the Philippines, and Kuwait. Their match schedule includes a game against Kuwait on September 15, the Philippines on September 18, and Uzbekistan on September 22.
