The International Fireworks Festival in Da Nang, DIFF 2026, has taken a leap into the future with its innovative use of digital technology. This year, the fireworks displays are meticulously designed to synchronize with musical melodies, creating a breathtaking visual and auditory experience for the audience.
Every aspect of the show, from sound to color and movement, has been digitized and tested using advanced 3D simulation software. This allows for a near-perfect accuracy in the timing of the fireworks with the accompanying music. According to Ha Quang Trung, a member of the Vietnamese fireworks team, each segment requires detailed descriptions of every firework, including burn time, height, color, and light effects. "Each segment consists of about 300 shots, which can take 2-3 hours to design," Trung explained.
Nick, a designer and engineer from the Chinese fireworks team, emphasized the importance of continuous testing of various color schemes, firing angles, and explosion timings on computers before they are implemented in practice. "Thanks to this, each fireworks display is precise, with effects that bloom in time with the music and synchronized lighting that is clear and vivid," Nick stated.
The electronic firing and activation system, known as "Fire One," allows for one-button control. All equipment is operated from a distance of 400 meters via fiber optic cables. Nadia Shakira Wong, the director of the G2000 Fireworks Consulting Company and an advisor to the DIFF judging panel, noted that each firing sequence is programmed with its own unique timing code. "Once activated, the entire program runs automatically and cannot be stopped. This requires extremely precise coordination with the stage organizers. The host must follow the script and timing before the automated timing triggers the fireworks to explode," Wong explained.
As the festival approaches, the stage and seating arrangements for DIFF 2026 have been reported to be over 90% complete, ready for operation by the end of May for the opening night along the Han River.
