Retirement Age Changes for Workers in Vietnam by 2027

Starting in 2027, the retirement age for workers in Vietnam will undergo important changes according to the Labor Code and Decree 135/2020/ND-CP. These regulations specify a gradual increase in the retirement age, aimed at reaching 62 years for male workers by 2028 and 60 years for female workers by 2035.

As of January 1, 2021, the retirement age was set at 60 years and 3 months for men and 55 years and 4 months for women. Following this, the retirement age will increase by 3 months each year for men until it reaches 62 years in 2028, and by 4 months each year for women until it reaches 60 years in 2035.

Specifically for the year 2027, the retirement age will be 61 years and 9 months for male workers and 57 years and 4 months for female workers. This adjustment reflects the government's ongoing efforts to align retirement policies with demographic changes and labor market conditions.

The changes are part of a broader strategy to ensure the sustainability of the social insurance system and to adapt to the aging population in Vietnam. As these policies come into effect, workers and employers are encouraged to stay informed about the implications for retirement planning.
