In their debut match in the AFC Champions League Elite 2026-2027, Công an Hà Nội (CAHN) suffered a heavy 1-4 defeat against Gamba Osaka at the Panasonic Suita Stadium in Japan. The match, held on September 15, showcased the challenges faced by the Vietnamese team against a seasoned opponent.

Gamba Osaka, a club with a rich history, including winning the AFC Champions League in 2008, opened the scoring in the 29th minute when Usami found the net with a precise shot. CAHN had opportunities to score early on, with Nguyễn Quang Hải testing the goalkeeper and Perea hitting the crossbar, but they were unable to capitalize on these chances.

Despite a promising start, CAHN's defense faltered, leading to further goals from Gamba Osaka. In the second half, CAHN's goalkeeper Filip Nguyễn made a remarkable save, but the team continued to struggle with coordination, allowing Osaka to score again in the 58th minute through Toshida's header. The situation worsened for CAHN when Usami scored his second goal in the 67th minute, extending the lead to 3-0.

CAHN finally found the back of the net in the 79th minute when Perea scored after a well-executed play, bringing the score to 1-3. However, Gamba Osaka sealed their victory with a fourth goal in stoppage time, scored by Sumi Koshiro.

Looking ahead, CAHN will face Kashima Antlers in their next match at home on October 13. This match serves as a learning experience for the team as they adapt to the competitive level of the AFC Champions League.
