Edu, the global head of football at Nottingham Forest, has officially left the club after a little over a year at the City Ground. His departure comes after a series of challenges and internal conflicts, particularly following a falling-out with former manager Nuno Espirito Santo, who was dismissed last September.

Since February, Edu has not been present at any matches, and it was widely anticipated that his contract would be terminated. His role had come under scrutiny amid the club's managerial upheaval, which saw four different managers take charge last season. Nuno Espirito Santo had previously hinted at tensions within the club, particularly regarding his relationship with owner Evangelos Marinakis.

With Edu's exit, Nottingham Forest has decided not to seek a replacement. Instead, George Syrianos, the club's chief football officer, will take over Edu's responsibilities. Edu joined Nottingham Forest in July 2025 after a successful six-year tenure at Arsenal, where he served as the club's first sporting director starting in 2022. During his time at Arsenal, he helped secure two Premier League titles and two FA Cups, and he played a pivotal role in bringing Mikel Arteta to the Emirates Stadium, leading to the club's first Premier League title in 22 years last season.

Edu's departure coincides with recent organizational changes at Nottingham Forest, including the appointment of Theodore Giannikos as the new chief executive, replacing Lina Souloukou, who stepped down at the end of the last season.

This significant shift in the club's leadership marks a new chapter for Nottingham Forest as it seeks to stabilize and move forward in the competitive landscape of the Premier League.
