Students and Lecturers Shine on Opening Day of New Academic Year

On the morning of September 5, universities and colleges across Vietnam held ceremonies to inaugurate the 2026-2027 academic year, creating a lively atmosphere filled with flags, flowers, and the laughter of new students. This event is not just a formality; it represents a crucial milestone in the students' lives, marking the beginning of their journey towards mastering knowledge and developing professional skills.

This year, in line with the education sector's general policy, the opening ceremonies were broadcast live nationwide via Vietnam Television, followed by activities unique to each institution, setting the tone for an energetic new academic year.

Highlights from the Ceremonies

At Ho Chi Minh City University of Law, faculty, staff, and students gathered early to participate in the national ceremony. The university honored 11 top scorers from the entrance exam, with the top student, Pham Nguyen Thien Nhan, achieving an impressive score of 28.48 points and receiving a reward of 10 million VND.

Similarly, at Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology, around 6,000 new students attended the opening ceremony, which included performances and speeches. The university noted a significant increase in applicants, with a 49% rise compared to the previous year, leading to higher admission scores across its 57 programs.

At the Vietnam-Germany University, the ceremony welcomed nearly 900 new students, with over 50% receiving scholarships. Remarkably, 32% of the new students had IELTS scores between 7.0 and 8.5, showcasing the growing interest in the university's German-standard education.

In a noteworthy initiative, the Vietnam Aviation Academy announced a scholarship fund exceeding 6 billion VND, aimed at supporting orphans and students from disadvantaged backgrounds. The academy is also expanding its training programs to meet the demands of the Long Thanh International Airport.

At Gia Dinh University, the ceremony coincided with the appointment of a new acting rector and the accreditation of three academic programs. The university emphasized the need for adaptive learning in response to rapid technological changes.

At the University of Medicine and Pharmacy in Ho Chi Minh City, the opening ceremony highlighted the awarding of full scholarships to 20 top scorers, including the overall top student, Dinh Ngoc Hai Lam, who achieved a total score of 31.5.

As the new academic year begins, universities across Vietnam are focusing on enhancing educational quality, fostering innovation, and preparing students to meet future challenges.
