The recent closure of Pennschool, an international school located on Ba Thang Hai Street in Ho Chi Minh City, has caused significant distress among parents and students. Initially, the school announced that classes would resume on September 3, but this was contradicted by the local administrative authority, which stated that the premises had been reclaimed as of July 3.

On August 24, many parents arrived at the school only to find a notice indicating that the premises had been reclaimed, leaving them bewildered. Following this incident, Pennschool issued a statement on August 25, requesting parents to understand the adjustment of the start date for classes to September 3.

The situation arose after a series of contractual disputes between the school and the local administrative authority. The premises were originally leased to a company, which allowed Pennschool to operate there. However, investigations revealed that the school had made unauthorized modifications to the building, leading to the termination of the lease.

In light of the closure, over 400 students are now left without a clear path forward. Many parents gathered at an alternative location on Tran Binh Trong Street to discuss potential solutions. Options being considered include withdrawing students or transferring them to the alternative campus.

Nguyen Thanh Trung, Head of Culture and Society for the local ward, confirmed that the local authorities are working with nearby schools to accommodate affected students. The Department of Education and Training in Ho Chi Minh City has also requested a report on the situation and the proposed resolutions by August 26.

This unexpected turn of events has raised questions about the management and oversight of educational institutions in the area, highlighting the need for clear communication between schools and parents.
