Quang Lê Reflects on Relationships After His Mother's Passing

Quang Lê, a well-known Vietnamese singer, has opened up about his feelings following the death of his mother on August 3, 2026. In a heartfelt conversation with his close friend, actress Mai Thiên Vân, he revealed that the experience of arranging his mother’s funeral made him reevaluate his relationships with certain people he once considered close.

During the discussion, Quang Lê stated, "At this moment, I realize who truly cares for me. There are people I thought were very close, but if they are busy, a simple flower or a word of condolence would suffice." This sentiment reflects his disappointment in the absence of support from those he expected to be there for him during this difficult time.

Quang Lê's mother, who passed away at the age of 73, had expressed her wish not to receive monetary offerings during her funeral. Instead, the family opted to accept flowers as a gesture of love and support from friends and family. The singer emphasized that his family wanted to honor her wishes, stating, "If we accepted money, she would feel indebted to everyone."

Despite the emotional turmoil, Quang Lê received an outpouring of support from fans and colleagues, with over 10,000 condolence messages and numerous floral tributes sent from various places, including Vietnam. Notable artists such as Việt Hương and Hoài Tâm sent flowers to the U.S. for the funeral.

Reflecting on the funeral proceedings, Quang Lê expressed his sadness not over material matters but rather the absence of certain individuals he thought were friends. He remarked, "There are those I believed were close to me, but they didn’t even send a word of condolence. I don’t blame anyone, but I feel I chose the wrong friends." He concluded his thoughts by acknowledging the importance of genuine friendships, stating, "What matters is having true friends, not just acquaintances."

Quang Lê's experience during this challenging time has led him to a deeper understanding of the people around him, and he now approaches these relationships with a renewed perspective.
