Hanoi Police Update on Traffic Accident from Over a Year Ago

Hanoi's Deputy Police Chief, Colonel Nguyen Duc Long, addressed the media regarding a traffic accident that took place more than a year ago on Nguyen Huy Tu Street in Hai Ba Trung District. The incident resulted in two individuals suffering severe injuries, with one victim, a female student, later dying in the hospital.

The driver involved, Nguyen Sy Cuong, born in 1961 and a resident of Hanoi, has reportedly admitted to his actions and has actively sought to remedy the situation. His efforts have been acknowledged by the victim's family, who submitted a request for the exemption of criminal prosecution.

Colonel Long stated that the victim's family wishes for the authorities to conclude the case swiftly to allow them to stabilize their lives. During the investigation, tests showed no alcohol presence in Cuong's breath, and he possesses all necessary driving licenses as mandated by law. Based on the evidence collected and a thorough assessment of the circumstances, it has been determined that Cuong meets the criteria for exemption from criminal prosecution.

This case highlights ongoing discussions about traffic safety and legal accountability in Vietnam, particularly in incidents involving severe injuries and fatalities.
