Severe Thunderstorms and Heavy Rain Forecast for Vietnam

Severe Thunderstorms and Heavy Rain Forecast for Vietnam

The National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting has issued a warning for severe thunderstorms and heavy rain across various regions in Vietnam today, August 14. The Northern region is expected to experience scattered showers and thunderstorms, particularly in the afternoon and evening, with rainfall reaching between 10 to 30mm, and localized heavy rain exceeding 70mm.

In addition, the Thanh Hoa, Nghe An, Central Highlands, and Southern regions are predicted to face similar weather conditions, with rainfall potentially surpassing 80mm in some areas. Reports indicate that last night and early this morning, regions such as Cao Bang and parts of Tuyen Quang experienced scattered showers and thunderstorms, with some locations recording over 50mm of rain.

The forecast warns of possible tornadoes, lightning strikes, hail, and strong wind gusts accompanying the thunderstorms. The risk of disasters due to these weather conditions is assessed at level 1, indicating a moderate threat. The heavy rains and storms could severely impact agricultural production, leading to fallen trees, damage to homes, and disruptions to transportation and infrastructure.

Authorities are particularly concerned about localized heavy rains, which may trigger flash floods in small rivers and streams, landslides on slopes, and flooding in low-lying areas. Residents are advised to stay alert and take necessary precautions to ensure their safety during this severe weather event.
