In a significant initiative, the Assam unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is targeting to collect Rs 12 crore from its party workers to support flood relief efforts in the state. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced this plan during a press conference, emphasizing the need for immediate assistance to those impacted by the devastating floods.

Sarma stated that the collected funds will primarily be used to distribute clothing to approximately 200,000 women and 200,000 children affected by the floods. He urged all party workers, referred to as karyakartas, to contribute generously to this noble cause, highlighting the importance of collective effort in times of crisis.

For those wishing to donate, Sarma noted that contributions under Rs 2,000 can be made through local Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLAs), while larger amounts should be deposited directly into the BJP's bank account. This move comes as the flood situation in Assam shows signs of improvement, with water levels receding in several areas that did not experience overnight rainfall. However, the impact remains severe, with over 650,000 individuals affected across six districts and a reported death toll of 66 due to this year's floods.
