Tax Authority Warns Businesses to Complete Tax Code Procedures

The Tax Authority of Vietnam has recently alerted businesses that have stopped their operations but have yet to finalize the termination of their tax codes. This warning is part of a broader campaign titled "Clean Tax Codes - Removing Business Obstacles" aimed at enhancing tax compliance across the country.

According to the Tax Authority, many businesses and household enterprises have ceased operations without completing the necessary procedures to officially terminate their tax codes. This has resulted in a backlog of unresolved tax documentation. Some businesses have failed to communicate with tax authorities, which has contributed to the prolonged status of their tax codes.

The Tax Authority has also noted that there are instances where individuals exploit the establishment of businesses or household enterprises for purposes other than legitimate business activities. This includes the misuse of electronic invoices for illegal buying and selling, as well as committing fraud to benefit from the state budget. In some cases, individuals have impersonated others to set up businesses without their knowledge, leaving them unaware of their names being associated with these entities.

In light of these issues, the Tax Authority is urging taxpayers to actively check the status of their businesses and contact the relevant tax offices for guidance on completing any outstanding tax filings. Specifically, those who have ceased operations but have not finalized their tax code termination should cooperate with tax authorities to complete their tax declarations and fulfill their tax obligations.

For businesses that are no longer operating at their registered addresses, the Tax Authority emphasizes the importance of determining whether they wish to reactivate their tax codes or dissolve their businesses. Taxpayers are encouraged to reach out to tax authorities to resolve any outstanding tax issues and comply with any administrative penalties if applicable.

The Tax Authority strongly advises individuals against lending, renting, or allowing others to use their personal identification information for the establishment of businesses or household enterprises, as well as for engaging in illegal transactions. Furthermore, individuals should regularly check the national business registration portal to ensure their personal information has not been misused. If any unauthorized use is detected, they should report it immediately to the business registration authority, law enforcement, and tax authorities for prompt verification and resolution.

In the near future, the Tax Authority plans to enhance its support functions through the eTax Mobile application, allowing citizens to conveniently monitor and detect any signs of identity theft related to business registrations.
