Reopening of Appeal in Vũ Linh's Estate Dispute

Reopening of Appeal in Vũ Linh's Estate Dispute

The High People's Court in Ho Chi Minh City is set to reopen the appeal hearing concerning the estate dispute of the late renowned artist Vũ Linh on June 23, 2026, at 1:30 PM. This case has garnered significant public interest due to its implications on the legacy of the beloved cải lương artist and the ongoing conflict between his adopted daughter, Hồng Loan, and his biological sister, Võ Thị Hồng Nhung.

The previous appeal hearing was held on April 22, 2026, but was postponed after initial procedures were completed. The court decided to delay proceedings due to the absence of a representative from the local government, which was deemed crucial for clarifying certain documents related to the case. The court emphasized the necessity of having all relevant parties present to ensure a comprehensive examination of the case details.

The dispute arose following Vũ Linh's passing in March 2023, when Hồng Nhung initiated legal action to annul documents regarding Hồng Loan's adoption and inheritance claims. She also sought a reevaluation of the inheritance rights concerning Vũ Linh's assets. In a ruling from early 2025, the Ho Chi Minh City court recognized Hồng Loan as Vũ Linh's legal adopted child, granting her 85% of the estate's value. Hồng Nhung was awarded 15% for her long-term care of the family and the artist.

Both parties have since filed appeals. Hồng Loan is contesting the allocation of 15% to Hồng Nhung, while Hồng Nhung continues to challenge the adoption documents and inheritance distribution. The upcoming hearing will be crucial in determining the final resolution of this high-profile estate dispute.
