Two Wild Cattle Found Dead in Dong Nai Nature Reserve

On June 20, officials from the Dong Nai Nature and Culture Reserve, along with relevant authorities, conducted an investigation into the deaths of two wild cattle found in compartment 123 of the Ma Da forest, located in Tri An ward. During a routine patrol, forest rangers from the Cu Dinh station discovered one wild cattle, weighing approximately 1.2 tons, lying dead in plot 25, section 2. About 200 meters away, another wild cattle, weighing around 800 kg, was found in a similar state in plot 9.

Both animals were lying on their sides with their legs raised, and while their bodies were intact, they had begun to decompose. Initial examinations did not reveal any signs of external force or indications that the animals had been caught in traps. Local residents reported that the area experienced heavy rain accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning on the night of the discovery.

Authorities are currently investigating whether the weather conditions could be linked to the deaths of the two wild cattle. Wild cattle are classified as endangered species under group IB, and their exploitation or use for commercial purposes is strictly prohibited.

A survey conducted in 2008 estimated that around 300 wild cattle were present in the Cat Tien National Park and the Dong Nai Nature and Culture Reserve.
